Winter 2003-2004

wonderful wintry fun in the country the neo-cons have so far overlooked

Scenic Jura mountain views from the late spring 2004

You may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.

Perroude du Vaud, 15-16 April 2004

Starting off inauspiciously, with a near miss

Good snowshoe form

-- It's a beautiful day, isn't it

La Foirausaz, 8 May 2004

Not such a beautiful day, this one, or beautiful in a different way

This is a collection of photos of the farm of La Foirausaz from all angles, some of which will join our Farms series.

This is taken from the west

And this from the north

And this from the east

No other photographs from that hike.

Mont Tendre, 15 May 2004

That's La Foirausaz again, a week later. The Monts de Bière are up on the left horizon.

We're trudging past on our way to Mont Tendre

The ridge of Mont Tendre

Late spring cornices

Up to the top, on the right. France in the background.

A look back along the long massif of Mont Tendre from the summit pylon. We'll go home along the snowless ridge on the right.

Splendid isolation

An ample hole in the middle of the pasture at the southwest end of the Mont Tendre ridge, near the cabane of La Pivette

Some years ago we saw the tracks of someone who'd fall into that one and of his or her friends hauling him back out of it again. There was a broken skipole still to be seen some way down it.

Pointe de Poêle Chaud, 16 May 2004

The next day, we're having a quiet solo jaunt up the Poêle Chaud by our normal route, bushwhacking the forest up to the Pointe de Fin Château (1555m) and then stalking up along the ridge to the summit at 1628m.

Looking back at the Point de Fin Château

Near the summit

La Dôle across the way

The Cointrin airport of Geneva facilities on top

Descending to the southeast, a glance over at the Pointe de Fin Château

The unmarked path the summit southeastward down to the Chalet des Apprentis (1507m)

La Dôle

Zoomed

The Pointe de Fin Château. We're going back to St-Cergue round the far side of the mountain, down the valley of Le Vuarne.

Mont Tendre again, 20 May 2004

Back to Mont Tendre again, this time walking up "the valley of dead trees"

Mind the step

The summit pylon in the dead centre

More dead trees

We've been to the top now, and we're returning by a wandery route.

The isolated barn of Le Sorcier

Mont Tendre still again! 29 May 2004

And more dead trees. Or perhaps the same ones.

The little hut amongst Les Rochettes

The whole club has turned out for the occasion.

Riders, walkers, everyone's here.
