All of life's
victims who've entered into their second half-century doubtless have noticed that
life gathers speed and passes us by much more quickly than once it did. (High
school seemed to stretch out forever and NEVER seemed to be done with. Not so,
the 1990s. Just when we learned to stop typing dates 198---- and go to 199---,
lo!, it's 200---.)
So,
too, the winter of 2000-2001 has zipped right on by, pell-mell. Pretty much a
good thing, too. But here are a few photos of whatever can still be salvaged from
all that havoc.
You
will not find this interesting unless you're included here, so this is a good
time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up
in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.
Good
start for the season: Mr Peck covering for the IUCN-The World Conservation Union's
computer network team on the Union's five servers, whilst the boys were off for
three weeks to Amman, Jordan, for the World Conservation Congress in big tents.

taking photos of the isolated farms of the Jura mountains in winter, and this
is one of them.

Splendid
young MarloweTyson Peck, recently
moved with her mother to the United States alas!, came to Switzerland for the
Christmas holidays, and is seen here with André, or Dante, Durham, on a Christmas
Eve hike.

By
a happy confluence of busy schedules, both Marlowe and Alison Peck were able to
visit the Old Dad at the same time and snowshow all over the Jura. More
here.
And another
hike: From left (back row), Lisa Durham, Bill, a terrorist, Teny Pirri, Alison
Peck, and Mr Peck coldly seated in the foreground. A
few more photos here.
The
terrorist in the center would officially be referred to as a "terrist".
What can have happened to the United States
Government in the past decade, that all of its spokespersons should speak like
first-graders?
Few
people luckier than Dr Peck -- astrophysicist daughter Alison returned from Bonn
for a long Easter 2001 weekend and a number of excellent snowshoe hikes.
