A rainy day on Grand Cunay
It's been a fabulous winter for snowshoers here in the Jura mountains, but now summer's here . . . or is it?
You may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.
We'll have the hiking paths to ourselves: a rainy 15 May 2013.
The mid-19th century Hotel du Marchairuz (1449m), the logical starting place.
Despite the rain, our guide is determined.
And initially enthusiastic.
A bit muddy.
And impatient.
But persistent.
Sometimes reflective.
But reinvigorated.
Our first destination.
The farm of Grand Cunay
We're slightly triumphant.
And now well-informed
The ski club cabane, with only a few mountain flowers
Our guide is momentarily lost.
But careful
And reparative
Mushy
Prudent
And confident
Indefatigable
But lost again
Approaching Mont de Bière Devant
The top ridge of Mont de Bière Devant
Lake Geneva. Nearly indistinguishable.
The farm of Mont de Bière Devant
Spartan
But probably cosy
Homebound
Re-oriented
A little wet and fed up
Slogging along, as needed
And back to Marchairuz. The sun should be bursting forth any minute now.
