Winter 2008-2009
Kristin's visit, November 2008. How better to work off the cassoulets of southwestern France than with a nice hike.
You
may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a
good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught
up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.
A hike to the farm of Mondion

We're just back from 10 days in Carcassonne (above) and Sarlat, land of foie gras and cassoulets, and we need some vigorous exercise.

Exercise that, on 23 November in the Swiss Jura, necessarily involves snow.
![](../pictures/win/winter2008-9b02.jpg)
More snow, certainly, than we had in southern France.

We've emerged from the forest above Bassins and we're topping out on the plateau around Mondion now.

A couple of families of wary chamois are staying just ahead of us.
![](../pictures/win/winter2008-9b05.jpg)
Good exercise. But we're already starting to think about dinner.

Out of the wind for a few moments

Onward

And back down towards Bassins, feeling virtuous after the cassoulets and foie gras. Now it's time to see what's left in the larder for dinner tonight.
