Winter 2003-2004

wonderful wintry fun in the country the neo-cons have so far overlooked

Seeking beautiful scenic views of Les Echadex

Though this might not be the best day for it

You may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.

We're depositing our VW station wagon for safekeeping at the farm of Les Chenevières (1215m) above the village of Le Vaud, 9 April 2004. Lake Geneva stretches across the background.

Now we're passing a little shed on a pasture at 1352m, below the Perroude du Vaud, on our way to take some poignant photographs of the farm at Les Echadex.

A quick tour of the building for the best photo angle

The farm of Les Echadex (1365m), the object of our desires for today

Les Echadex

The way we've just come, slaloming the fenceposts on our snowshoes for some reason

Les Echadex for most of its angles

The long-distance hiking path the Chemin des Crêtes runs along just over that ridge from the Perroude de Marchissy to the Perroude du Vaud, at about 1430m.

We're looking to the southwest now, the way we've come.

That's enough for today, back into the forest.

Whoops. A little hole in the forest floor that will leave a bruise.

The Tearoom de la Plage, overlooking the whole world from its privileged position at the top of a cliff-of-sorts at 1300m.

The Tearoom

Back by the pasture of Les Fornets to the Chenevières farm, where we've instructed Dieter the VW to wait for us.

There he is, waiting.
