Kristin's visit to Switzerland, June-July 2003
The Trient Glacier
As part of our long-term glacier monitoring programme, we went back to the Trient Glacier, in mid-July 2003 to see how things were getting on there.
You
may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a
good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught
up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.
Things were not going well, ice-wise.
When we first began coming along here, the tongue of the glacier reached down into the vegetation in the foreground.
Kristin dwarfed by scenery. (The point on the upper right, the Pointe d'Orny, is the highest point I've got to in Europe under my own meagre powers.)
