Visits to Rome

A photographic record of whatever leapt out at us

You may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.

Kristin lived in Rome for ten years or so and doubtless visited after that, but this index only covers visits since 2006 that we've made as a team, as it were.

Outside the Colosseum, November 2006
(the plastic selfie soldiers have been banned since 2015)

A guided tour of the Vatican Museum, May 2008
(don't pause to look at anything, you'll get rolled over by a column of Germans)

The fake Marcus Aurelius equestrian statue on the Campdoglio, February 2010
(the original is in the museum next door)

A scenic view from inside the Villa Farnesina, October 2011
(not really, that's trompe l'oeil, all painted on the wall)

St Ambrose, 4th century Bishop of Milan, at the church of Sant'Ambrogio e San Carlo al Corso
(not very dignified for one of the four celebrated 'Doctors of the Church')

The Castel Sant'Angelo (aka Hadrian's Mausoleum), November 2022
(two rewarding weeks walking all round, and eating well)

The Spanish Steps on the walk back to the Spagna metro station, October 2023
A brief visit to the Sunday Market in the Borghetto Flaminio neighborhood

More to follow, if our luck holds
a little longer
