Late summer 2014

Fun whilst it lasted

Newly back from relaxing lakeside in the USA, we're reaquainting ourselves with the region of the Chablais.

You may not find this terribly rewarding unless you're included here, so this is a good time for casual and random browsers to turn back before they get too caught up in the sweep and majesty of the proceedings and can't let go.

To the farm at Le Richard

We, and hordes of other people, are at the Pont de Nant (1253) above Les Plans-sur-Bex in Switzerland; whilst they're lunching at the restaurant montagnard and visiting the jardin alpin, we're bound for a little reconnoitring walk up to the farm of Le Richard near the col on the horizon, 4 October 2014.

The restaurant at Pont de Nant and alpine garden as we get solemnly underway (we've been traveling for the past three weeks and are neither limber nor energetic).

Kristin on the pathway northward up the hill

In the '80s and '90s I used to come up this trail on cross-country skis, carefully.

Coming back down was trickier.

Nearly there

The farm of Le Richard (1537m)

The thought strikes us: we'd really like some authentic cheese from the farm.

-- Hello. May we buy some cheese please?

Le Richard on the final day of the season; the family is moving back down to their winter home in Les Plans-sur-Bex at the end of today.

A portrait, on an arrow-shaped signboard . . .

. . . pointing over here.

The cheese, as it turned out, was fabulous. The little shed on the left, left blessedly unlocked, served us providentially in a bad storm in 1993.

We're taking the easy route back down.

A little creek coming down from the cliffs just above to the east

The same creek in the hanging valley of La Tine on its way down to Nant

Looking back up towards the Plan-Névé

No hitchhiking
